...Is a Mast Cell Tumor.
I knew it was not good when they stuck in a syringe to get a sample and it was not filled with fluid, like I had assumed.
It is going to be removed next Wednesday, and if it is Grade I, like I hope, that will be the end of it. If it is more serious, then I will just have to enjoy the days my dog has left, and make sure she is comfortable. I cannot afford chemo or radiation, and she doesn't need to suffer through it. Hell, I can't really afford this surgery.
The Mast Cell Tumor does explain why Emma throws up more often than normal, it apparently causes stomach irritation and itchiness, and it also explains why it popped up overnight. They are immune system cells that normally react to parasites. In "such a clean world" (this is the way the handout from the vet puts it) they have nothing to do and can freak out. They cause inflammation, itchiness, redness, irritation, etc.
So, for now I am off to buy Emma Benadryl and Pepcid AC to treat the symptoms she is currently suffering through, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Poor Emma. I feel a special affinity for your dog, even though I've never met her, because as you know, she looks so much like mine. I've lost a dog before, it's a terrible thing. Still it's liberating to know they're no longer feeling any pain.
