Oh What a Night! / Adventures in the Hospitality Industry
Here is the first hour and a half of my night described as it is written in a letter to my supervisor, in hopes that he will be able to understand what happened when he gets here this morning. Dig it:
At 8:11pm Guest A checked in. The Front Desk assigned her to room 502, but mistakenly sent her to room 302, which was occupied. Ms. A then returned to say that the room was occupied, so The Front Desk opened the reservation to room 302, and re-assigned it to room 324, not realizing that the name was different than that of the guest, Ms. A. Guest B, in 302 since Sunday, wound up assigned to 324, Guest A was assigned to room 502, but had never been there, and it seemed like 302 had no owner. Guest B showed up about 11:30 and came to he desk when her key to room 302 was not working. At this point I had no knowledge of Guest A and was confused as to why she would be moved to 324 today, but re-assigned 302 to her. A guest called asking to have his room changed, so I decided to check the status of 324, since it was the only KNGN that might be available. I had tried to call 324, and when no one answered made a key to go and check the status of the room. I found out it was occupied, but didnÂt know by whom. When I made it back to the desk the phone was ringing. At this time I found out that Guest A was in 324, and tried to go about finding out who she was. When I realized that she was in 502, I reassigned her to 324, and then tried to contact the guest in 225, who had complained of noise and had asked to move, with no luck.
Before that my co-worker screwed up her deposit and could not figure out where she had gone wrong, and then an Asian guest was having some sort of trouble with his wireless internet, but I couldn't figure what exactly was the problem, and he couldn't figure out why I couldn't figure it out and got mad at me. He actually yelled.
All of this on top of being totally unable to sleep today for most of the day. Of the eight hours I lay still trying to trick myself into it I slept less than half that time.
